To discuss how to work with Windows Forms and controls in VB.NET

Target Audience
Application developers with some experience in Visual Basic .NET who wish to become familiar with developing user services in the .NET Framework, especially those who wish to attain the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) or Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) for Microsoft .NET credentials

A broad knowledge of the .NET Framework and experience creating a simple application using Visual Basic .NET

Objectives:

  • identify the considerations for designing an effective user interface (UI) for a .NET Windows application.
  • identify the uses of Windows Forms in Windows applications.
  • create forms in a VB.NET Windows application.
  • use the properties, methods, and events of a form in a VB.NET Windows application.
  • create a form using visual inheritance, set its properties, and create an event handler in VB.NET.
  • use controls and set the Control Tab order in a VB.NET Windows application.
  • identify the process for using event handlers for controls and work with the controls collection in VB.NET.
  • create main menus, shortcut and access keys, and context menus, and clone and merge menus in VB.NET Windows applications.
  • add a toolbar and status bar to a Windows form and explain the use of dialog boxes and their associated code in Windows applications.
  • add menus and menu items and modify them in a VB.NET Windows application.
