Overview/Description
To demonstrate how to validate user input and error handling for a VB.NET Windows application

Target Audience
Application developers with some experience in Visual Basic .NET who wish to become familiar with developing user services in the .NET Framework, especially those who wish to attain the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) or Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) for Microsoft .NET credentials

A broad knowledge of the .NET Framework and experience creating a simple application using Visual Basic .NET

Objectives:

Input Validation and Error Handling in VB.NET

  • define field-level and form-level validation and implement validation for Windows Forms in VB.NET.
  • add an ErrorProvider component to a VB.NET form.
  • add field-level and form-level validation to a VB.NET application
  • determine how to handle errors with VB.NET using structured error handling.
  • throw exceptions and create custom exceptions in VB.NET.
  • handle errors in VB.NET.
