To describe how to plan the restructuring of a Windows NT 3.5x or NT 4.0 domain to a Windows 2000 domain

Students preparing for Microsoft exam 70-222; personnel in medium to very large computing environments that plan to migrate from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000

Prerequisites
An understanding of Windows NT domain structure, including Active Directory™, DNS, DHCP, WINS, and TCP/IP as well as experience with remote access, routing issues, and connectivity

Objectives:

  • list the characteristics and requirements of interforest and intraforest restructuring in Windows 2000.
  • list the different Windows 2000 domain restructuring tools and their uses.
  • identify pre-restructure tasks and the restructuring order within a domain when migrating to Windows 2000.
  • list the steps required to configure source and target domains for interforest restructuring to Windows 2000.
  • move user and group accounts to Windows 2000.
  • migrate user accounts to Windows 2000 using the Active Directory Migration Tool.
  • use ClonePrincipal to migrate group accounts to Windows 2000.
  • move computer accounts to Windows 2000.
  • use Netdom to move computer accounts to Windows 2000.
  • use the Active Directory Migration Tool to move computer accounts to Windows 2000.
  • carry out the necessary post-migration tasks in Windows 2000 before decommissioning the source domain.
