To recall various broadband options, their architecture, and their operation, and to identify and use the commands for configuring a Cisco 827 router for NAT with PPPoA

Target Audience
Network engineers responsible for configuring, implementing, troubleshooting, and managing WAN and remote access solutions; network architects responsible for designing WAN and remote access solutions; CCNP candidates; CCIE candidates

Prerequisites
A knowledge of general networking terms and concepts; experience in general Cisco router operation and configuration, including TCP/IP, routing protocols (RIP, IGRP), routed protocols (IP, IPX), standard and extended access lists, PPP operation and configuration over serial links, Frame Relay operation and configuration on interfaces and subinterfaces, and legacy DDR over ISDN-BRI operation and configuration; a basic knowledge of data networking equivalent to the information in the Cisco Certified Network Associate Basics (CCNAB) v2.0 course and the Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND) v2.0 course; experience working in a network environment is recommended

Objectives:

Broadband Technologies

  • differentiate between the different broadband options that can be used for remote access to a central site.
  • recognize the key components and terms associated with cable technology.
  • recall how different cable technologies work together and sequence the steps for provisioning a cable modem.
  • differentiate between the different types of DSLs, recognize their limitations, and recall their operation.
  • identify the advantages and disadvantages of using ADSL to carry data, and to identify the different methods of doing so.
  • select an appropriate broadband technology for a given business scenario.
  • list the tasks and commands required to configure a PPPoE client on a Cisco 827 router and enable a dynamic IP address to be assigned via IPCP.
  • list the tasks and commands required to configure a PPPoA client on a Cisco 827 router and a dialer interface for PPPoA operations.
  • list the tasks required to troubleshoot Layer-1 (physical) and Layer-2 (data-link) issues.
