Configuring EIGRP

Overview/Description
To configure Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) for a scalable network

Target Audience
Network engineers responsible for configuring, implementing, troubleshooting, and managing medium-to-large routed networks in an enterprise or service provider environment; network architects responsible for designing networks that support multiple routing protocol types; CCNP, CCDP, and CCIP candidates; CCIE routing and switching candidates

Prerequisites
A good understanding of networking terms, topologies, and the OSI reference model; familiarity with TCP/IP and configuring IP address schemes, including subnetting and variable-length subnet masking (VLSM); experience of operating and configuring Cisco routers for general use and configuring basic routing protocol implementations

Expected Duration
135 Minutes

Objectives:

Configuring EIGRP

  • recall how EIGRP Diffusing Update Algorithm (DUAL) automatically implements route selection.
  • configure Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) and verify EIGRP operation using appropriate commands.
  • determine which routes will become successor routes for a given network.
  • configure manual route summarization in a scalable EIGRP network.
  • recall the Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) query process.
  • list the factors that impact network scalability, and use route summarization and stub areas to limit the query range.
  • configure EIGRP and carry out optimization of the routing process.
