To introduce the learner to Cisco IDS architecture and to perform basic Cisco IDS device configuration

Prerequisites
Experience in configuring Cisco IOS software; certification as a CCNA or the equivalent knowledge; a basic knowledge of the Windows operating system; familiarity with the networking and security terms and concepts

Objectives:

Cisco IDS Architecture and Device Configuration

  • recognize the Cisco IDS Sensor's interoperating applications, communications infrastructure, user accounts, and roles.
  • recognize the features and technical specifications of the 4210, 4215, 4235, and 4250 Sensor appliances.
  • identify the requirements and steps involved in installing IDS version 4.0 and initializing the Sensor.
  • assign the IP network settings and complete the initial configuration for a Network Sensor.
  • recognize how to use IDSM2 for intrusion detection analysis with Catalyst 6500 series switches.
  • recognize the commands for entering IDS 4.0 CLI modes and the administrative tasks performed in these modes.
  • implement the initial Sensor configuration by creating user accounts, setting the system clock, and configuring network access.
  • maintain and troubleshoot a Sensor in a given scenario.
  • use the CLI to configure and manage the Sensor in a given scenario.
