Fire Safety

Overview/Description
Workplace fires cost U.S. businesses more than a billion-and-a-half dollars in 2001. And of the 5,900 fatal occupational injuries in 2001, almost 200 were due to fires and explosions. You can't put a price tag on the lives of the people who died or the lives of the people affected by their deaths. Learning about fire safety in the workplace can help reduce the number of occupational deaths and injuries due to fire, and it may even help reduce the amount of property loss. This course addresses major workplace fire hazards and potential ignition sources, as well as safe work practices for avoiding starting a fire. This course also covers what actions to take in the event of a fire, the classes of fire and fire extinguishers, and the basic steps to follow for using a fire extinguisher. This course addresses, in part, OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.38(a), OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.38(b), and OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.157. This SkillSoft Corporation training course has been reviewed by attorneys from the law firm of Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green, PA, of Manchester, New Hampshire and Boston, Massachusetts for accuracy under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (the "Act") and certain regulations promulgated pursuant to the Act by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration ("OSHA"), as to the matters covered and as of the date reviewed. Due to the rapidly changing nature of the law, information in this course may become outdated.
