Objectives:

Relational Principles

  • To instruct the user on the different database management system models and to explain the non-relational models in detail
  • To instruct the user on the relational database management system models and to explain the different terms associated with relational models
  • To outline Codd's twelve rules and describe their contents
  • To introduce the entity and referential integrity rules
  • To introduce the relational operators and identify their value as a means of easy data manipulation
  • To describe the three levels in the database architecture and to relate these to data independence
